Confused with all of the NDIS announcements?

Are you confused with all of the NDIS announcements?

We've been more anxious than ever.

Here's what you need to know:

  • $2 billion will be allocated to "Thriving Kids" aimed at supporting children with mild to moderate developmental delays and autism.

  • Thriving Kids is not a complete replacement of NDIS foundational supports, which is a tier of services outside of NDIS for children with less profound disabilities, run by states and territories, in settings such as schools, childcare and health services.

  • If children currently on NDIS or enter NDIS before July 2026, they will remain on NDIS.

Statistics on autism

According to the 2024-25 NDIS quarterly report,  approximately 11 per cent of all kids between five to seven years of age were on the scheme at the end of June this year — 13.7 per cent of boys and 6.4 per cent of girls.

The statistics speak volumes: nearly 300,000 people on NDIS are active participants on the NDIS. Of the scheme's almost 740,000 participants, about 23 per cent were younger than nine and 40 per cent had a primary diagnosis of autism, the report showed.

For families with children on NDIS early intervention supports, the future can be unpredictable. When changes like this are announced with little time to understand what is happening makes us so anxious.

As parents and caregivers of our neurodivergent children, we have a common goal: to ensure our children thrive and receive all the necessary supports that they need.

We will continue to monitor developments closely, and provide updates as much as we can. Our page of free resources is even more crucial at this point. We will try to add as much as we can in the next few months. If you have any suggestions on what we should include on our free resources page, please feel free to contact us.
