Copycats and dupes: Is their quality and design the same?
Share
We started Subtly Anxious out of a genuine desire to help people manage anxiety with beautiful, thoughtfully designed rings. As someone who has dealt with anxiety myself, I wanted to create pieces that not only look good but provide a sense of calm in life's chaos. It’s been a fulfilling journey, but I won’t lie—there have been some bumps along the way.
Dealing with Copycat Issues
One of the major challenges we've faced is the unfortunate reality of trademark issues. It's frustrating when you create something unique, pour your heart into it, and then see others ripping it off. Take Temu, for instance. They’ve started selling rings that look strikingly similar to ours. While I totally get that everyone wants to find a deal, seeing not only our designs copied but our actual name feels incredibly disheartening. It’s like someone stealing your idea and passing it off as their own.
Our rings aren't just products; they reflect the hard work and creativity behind them. When people opt for cheaper, mass-produced alternatives, they miss out on the quality and thoughtfulness we have invested in each piece. I can’t help but think, "Are they getting what they expected, or are they settling for less?"
Quality and Design Matters
What really gets to me is the impact on quality. At Subtly Anxious, we source high-quality materials and produce each ring with care, ensuring that they serve not just as fashion accessories but as tools for mindfulness. Everyone deserves that right, don’t you think? But those knock-off rings? They often cut corners and they just look so tacky, which can disappoint customers looking for something truly special.
When I see someone unhappy with a product they bought because they were drawn in by a lower price, it’s disheartening. It makes you question whether we're getting marginalised in a market that values quantity over quality.
Struggling for Visibility
With the rise of cheaper alternatives, our marketing efforts took a hit. We started our Google Ads with hope that our rings would reach the right people, but as more competitors entered the space, it felt like we were fighting an uphill battle. Fewer clicks mean fewer sales, which leads to lost connections with those who'd genuinely appreciate our story and mission.
I’ve had long nights wondering how to recapture our audience's attention. We know our rings resonate with people who value genuine and meaningful connections especially when they are designed and owned by Australians. I just need to find a way to ensure they see that!
Our Community
So, what’s the plan? We’re doubling down on what makes us unique. We want to reconnect with our community and emphasise the essence of what Subtly Anxious stands for. We're investing more in helpful resources, and sharing stories about anxiety management and how our products fit into that narrative.
And I’m excited to say that we’re focusing on new products to keep things fresh and appealing. It’s a way to show that we’re not just keeping up with trends but are committed to providing quality pieces that people can feel good about wearing.
Community matters, and I believe in the power of sharing experiences. Hearing from people who have found comfort in our anxiety rings makes it all worth it. We believe that when customers choose Subtly Anxious, they’re embracing not only style but also a supportive community that understands them.
At the end of the day, being a small business owner comes with its challenges. While we’ve faced hurdles that can be tough to navigate, I feel hopeful. It’s about staying true to our mission of providing quality over quantity, and I genuinely appreciate every bit of support from our amazing community.
If you’ve been part of our journey or have found value in what we do, I’d love if you could spread the word. Choosing small, authentic brands like ours makes a difference, especially in an overly commercialised world. Thanks for reading this far!
